SAVED MY LIFE!!!

This is an EXCELLENT book!!! If you need someone to coddle you and hold your hand - forget it. If you want to read something that will help you to come out of your mess, then you need to read this. This man speaks the truth with love, but he does not placate those involved in the viscious demonic cycle of sexual addiction. It is VERY hard-hitting!!! In fact, it took me several weeks to get thru it because there were days when I just did not feel like "crucifying my flesh" as this book will encourage you to do. But if you want freedom that last and will also give you eternal life, this book is for you!

From the day (7/4/2004) after I got this book until today (2/15/2006), I have not been to a bookstore, theatre, park, bath house, etc. HALLALEUJAH!!! There are many (so-called) christian books full of psycho-babble (not The Word) on this subject. From my expereince many are lacking in their biblical perspective/foundation. The writer of this book points to Jesus and The Cross - man's only TRUE hope for freedom.

PRAISE THE LORD!!!

I thank God for this tool that was supernaturally used in my life to help set me free!!!

If you or someone that you know struggles with sexual addictions, this is the book to get. It is a tough read unless someone is really desparate to change. If they are, then it as absolute life preserver. He wrote it 20+ years ago and it's still the seminal read on this issue.

I work with crack-addicted homeless men in Washington, DC. For three years I've used the book "Every Man's Battle" by Steve Arterburn along with other materials to teach a class in sexual purity. Last year I began incorporating "At the Altar of Sexual Idolatry" into the curriculum. This year I've thrown out the "Every Man's Battle" book, not because it's no good, but because it's not good enough. Whereas "Every Man's Battle" just touches the tip of the iceberg and is useful for men who are not sure if they've crossed the line, the population I work with has gotten so far over the line they don't even know where it is anymore. Time is of the essence, and "At the Altar of Sexual Idolatry" saves valuable time by rapidly focusing on the core problem and identifying factors. Over and over again men have remarked "I really understand what you mean by the sex problem" after reading 'Sexual Addiction' (the first chapter). Sexual addiction, especially among the drug addicted population is getting worse. Ninety percent of those who relapse back into drugs start with a hook-up with a female. For those I work with it's an epidemic. Any tool that will save a life is worth using. For some, Steve Gallagher's approach may be overwhelming, but for those who have been risen from the dead it is a breath of fresh air.

Much thanks to the author for this valuable testimony and teaching on how to overcome sexual idolatry. It seems that every American is caught up in this! In addition to my personal enrichment and growth I used this book to teach a men's class on the subject. I have never seen a "textbook" in a class I taught so thoroughly read by the men. In the class this book was read, talked about, debated about, prayed over, cried over, related to, and appreciated. Gallagher was so vulnerable and transparent in this testimony it seemed to remove the issue from off the table for the men. The the teaching that followed led step by step to a life of victory and blessing. I wish every men's group would read and study this book. A great discipleship book!
